The World Academy of Sport (WAoS) delivers learning programmes for sports and event participants - athletes, managers, administrators, officials and coaches - through a series of tailored educational programmes.

Steve Griffiths

Steve studied at Dundee University from 1970 – 1974 where he obtained an MA in Social Science and Letters – Economics. He also studied Industrial Relations for Senior Managers at Warwick University in 1984 and in 2005 he completed a course in Employment Law at University College Dublin.

Steve became increasingly involved in educational initiatives with the World Academy of Sport, and this was initially through its relationship with the World Rugby. He plays a leading role in the design of, and has been one of the core lecturers on, the Postgraduate Certificate in Sport Management offered by World Academy of Sport in conjunction with Royal Holloway, University of London. Steve is currently the Director, IF Programmes and continues to develop the relationships and programmes WAoS has with its partner academies and stakeholders.

Adama Bakhoum
Regional Training Co-ordinator – Africa, World Rugby
Adama is a native of Senegal. He is a former Captain in the Senegalese Army. On leaving the Army in 2002 he became the Executive Director of a real estate agency. He played Rugby throughout his career and has coached the Senegal National Team.

He became an accredited IRB coach educator and subsequently an IRB accredited Trainer which enables him to train and accredit educators in coaching, refereeing and strength and conditioning. He attended an IPC workshop in Dakar in 2013.
Alejandro Degano
Regional Training Consultant – South America, World Rugby
A native of Argentina, Alejandro has had a business career at a senior level with a number of large commercial organisations whilst being involved in Rugby where he served on the board of the Union de Rugby Buenos Aires. As Regional Training Co-ordinator he organises training and development in the region and has a particular interest in ensuring that member federations are equipped educationally to be effective. He translated most of the IRB educational products into Spanish over a number of years and has been involved in IRB education delivery since 2001. Alejandro is an accredited IRB Trainer.
Mike Joyce
Global Sport Services Manager, FIH
Mike was educated at the Royal Military College of Science Shrivenham (Civil Engineering) and Leicester University (Sport Science & International Marketing).

In 1991 he founded a High Performance Hockey Coaching, Coach Education and Event Management business and remains a Director to date.
 
From 1999 to 2006 Mike held a National Development post at England Hockey, with responsibility for Clubs, Education and Performance Pathways. From 2006 to 2013 he combined the role of Managing Director of European Snowsport Sarl (Switzerland`s largest private ski school) with that of an associate lecturer in Sport Science at the University of Northampton.
 
Mike has been actively involved in sport at all levels as a volunteer and professional for the past 30 years. In 2013 he accepted a position with the (FIH) International Hockey Federation. He is responsible for FIH Hockey Academy programmes in partnership with the World Academy of Sport and for  Continental Federation and National Association members of the FIH.
